By Domaine Leroy

2010 Vosne les Beaux Monts from Domaine Leroy, Vosne-Romanée, Burgundy, France

In the lexicon of fine wines, Burgundy holds a revered place, and the 2010 Vosne les Beaux Monts from Domaine Leroy stands as a particularly remarkable chapter. My years of traversing the nuanced topographies of this hallowed region has attuned my palate to the subtle whispers of its terroir – whispers that echo resoundingly in this superb vintage.

A Vintage Shaped by Nature’s Whims

The 2010 growing season in Burgundy was subject to nature's caprices, yielding wines with both finesse and structure. Faced with a challenging combination of cool early weather, intermittent rainfalls, and a blissful Indian summer; meticulous vignerons like Domaine Leroy triumphed, crafting a vintage that resonates with precision and depth.

The 2010 Vosne les Beaux Monts speaks of the delicate dance between adversity and artistry. Its profile is an intricate weave of succulent cherries and ripe red berries, layered with an earthy minerality distinctive to the Beaux Monts lieu-dit – a terroir that consistently delivers complexity.

Investing Beyond the Bottle

For the sophisticated fine wine investor, provenance is paramount and in Domaine Leroy we find an enduring custodian of excellence. The 2010 vintage is no exception; it stands as one of the most investable offerings from this esteemed producer, guaranteeing interest due to its limited production and exceptional quality.

Precise in its expression, the 2010 Vosne les Beaux Monts offers a palate laden with fresh acidity, spiced tobacco notes and a velvety texture that unfurls into a persistent finish – nuances upon which time will only embellish. A decade on, and with poise for further maturation, this wine articulates its year emphatically – an oenological manuscript on Burgundian finesse.

As we consider the elements that make for an auspicious investment opportunity – rarity, repute, excellence in viticulture, and enological expertise – the 2010 Vosne les Beaux Monts from Domaine Leroy presents itself as an archetypal candidate for the discerning collector. This wine is a testament to the symbiosis between nature's intents and human intervention, scribed indelibly in vinous ink for generations to appreciate and savour.

Scores and tasting notes

A remarkably vivid wine, the 2010 Vosne-Romanee Les Beaux Monts is totally alive in the glass. Sweet spices, menthol and tar emerge on the bouquet, followed by deep, baritone layers of dark fruit. The 2010 boasts stunning depth and richness, with seemingly endless persistence on the huge, imposing finish. Once again, the comparison with Brulees is instructive. Here the aromas are much more intense, dark and spiced. Both wines possess staggering textural finesse. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040. Lalou Bize-Leroy is always among the first growers to bottle, as she was once again in 2010. Therefore, I have chosen to present final, in-bottle reviews of the 2010 reds along with the Domaine Leroy and D’Auvenay 2010 whites. All of the wines came in at or near the top of my barrel scores. Thinking back to the day I tasted the 2010s from barrel in a very empty-looking cellar, I am reminded, that, as elsewhere, the already minuscule quantities of these wines was made even smaller by the mercilessly short crop in 2010. Readers who can find the wines should not hesitate. In this vintage, the Leroy wines are deeply marked by terroir. Although I don’t share all of her views, tasting with Lalou Bize-Leroy is always a fascinating experience, as everything she does is informed by the deepest and most total conviction imaginable. There is no more ardent exponent of the most fundamental of all Burgundian values – the concept of terroir – than Lalou Bize-Leroy. Importer: Martine’s Wines. Novato, CA; tel. (415) 883-040
