The 2000 Chateau Haut-Batailley from Chateau Haut-Batailley, Pauillac, Bordeaux
The millennium vintage for many Bordelais vintners is steeped in prodigious hype, a sentiment that the 2000 Chateau Haut-Batailley from Chateau Haut-Batailley reverberates with assured finesse. The epochal conditions of the year 2000 brought forward a yield that displayed remarkable equilibrium, demonstrating profound layering of flavours and an adherence to structure that seasoned investors have come to cherish.
A Vintage Defining Elegance and Vigour
When considering the investment allure of fine wines, one searches for those prime years where nature's gambit paid off handsomely. The perfect alignment of favourable weather conditions during the crucial growing season in Pauillac has rendered the 2000 Chateau Haut-Batailley a delightful study in terroir expression. This vinous panoply saunters across the palate with an intricate lacework of blackcurrant, cedar wood and hints of tobacco—a seemingly timeless melody conjured from the vineyard's gravely soils.
Maturation: When Potential Unfolds
Now at the zenith of its maturation curve, this vintage exhibits polished tannins and a regal complexity that can only be derived from patient cellaring. The burgeoning maturity is not simply a whispered promise but a sonorous declaration made evident within each sip. It's a representation that conveys storied elegance, profound for its narrative as much as its sensorial pleasures.
The collectability and subsequent ennoblement of the 2000 Chateau Haut-Batailley is a testament to the steadfast precision of winemaking mastery present at Chateau Haut-Batailley. Its aptitude for graceful ageing positions it as a salient option for investors looking to diversify their portfolios with a wine emblematic of an illustrious vintage.

Scores and tasting notes
The 2000 Haut Batailley, served by Xavier Borie at Grand-Puy-Lacoste, showed a slight herbaceous note on the nose, accompanied by cedar and graphite aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with still quite tough tannins, foursquare in style and perhaps just missing a little persistence on the finish. As a big fan of this property, perhaps I was a little underwhelmed by this example and it was shown up by the superior 1995. Tasted July 2016.
