2012 Clos St Denis Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru from Ponsot, Burgundy, France

The 2012 vintage in Burgundy was one cloaked in drama and unpredictability, with challenging climatic conditions leading to a harvest that demanded the utmost skill from growers. Amidst this backdrop, the 2012 Clos St Denis Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru from Ponsot emerges as a testament to resilience and meticulous vineyard management, yielding a wine replete with finesse and structure.

Crafting Elegance in Adversity

The constrained yields of 2012 due to hailstorms and uneven flowering were offset by rigorous sorting and an unyielding commitment to quality at Ponsot. The result is a wine of intense concentration, layered with aromatic complexity that speaks to the old vines' roots deep within the precipitous slopes of Clos St Denis. This Grand Cru, under the stewardship of winemaker Laurent Ponsot, encapsulates the intricate dance between human intervention and nature's caprice.

The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Lavières has a very composed and refined bouquet with raspberry coulis, blackberry leaf and cold stone aromas. I like the precision here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, sappy red berry fruit, a crisp line of acidity, linear and quite structured with a "correct" finish. Enjoy this Nuits Saint-Georges over the next decade.
