Reignots’ Radiance in a Comtempered Year

While the opening act of the growing season played out cooler than desired, resulting in delayed flowering, Burgundian tenacity witnessed a reversal as summer arrived. Eventually, sun-filled days ripened the Pinot Noir to levels that revealed a truly spectacular vintage for the region. This climatic journey has bestowed upon the reigns of Reignots a wine characterised by its formidable balance and enticing complexity.

Balancing Poise and Power

The 2002 Vosne Romanee Aux Reignots from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair epitomises the richness and elegance that meticulous wine investors covet. On the nose, one finds an ethereal bouquet mingling small red fruits with an undercurrent of exotic spices and earthy truffle—an aromatic séance invoking the storied estate's deeply layered terroir. Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2002 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots was a little smudged and reductive on the nose, developing savoury and dried meat notes with time. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin on the entry, good weight but missing the tension and precision that subsequent vintage will bring. Tasted June 2015.
