The Pedigree of an Exceptional Vintage

The 2009 vintage was one that kindled the flames of excitement within the Burgundy appellation. A year defined by a return to classical proportions following the dramatics of 2008, it brought forth wines that were not merely sumptuous but structured with both substance and poise. The Vosne Romanee Clos du Chateau from this celebrated year is emblematic of such virtues. At first glance, the striking ruby hue of the 2009 Vosne Romanee Clos du Chateau provides just a hint of the symphony to follow. On the nose, an intricate ballet of aromas - dark cherry and violet entwined with whispers of spice - seduces even before one indulges in a taste. On the palate, the wine articulates its narrative with depth: robust and self-assured layers bearing sultry fruit, earthy undertones, and a sleek minerality, knit together by tannins that carry both grace and authority.

The aftertaste lingers with an epilogue that resonates; it insists upon contemplation – a meditative homage to its birthplace and years shaped by careful husbandry and climatic beneficence. This wine has woven itself into the fabric of discerning collectors' portfolios, respected as much for its present allure as for its promise of evolution.

Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2009 Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château clearly has more fruit concentration on the nose compared to the 2007 and 2008: sensual red cherries mixed with raspberry and orange blossom. I like how seamlessly the oak is integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and a crisp line of acidity. This is the oldest vintage that feels as if it could benefit from more bottle age. This is very fine. Tasted June 2015.
