Every September, distribution network La Place de Bordeaux releases a number of new wines to the market. The platform has become increasingly popular with wines from outside Bordeaux – for example, Francis Ford Coppola’s Napa winery has recently announced its plans to use La Place. As such, Liv-ex has revealed its top picks for the forthcoming month.
Opus One 2015: The 2014 vintage received acclaim from numerous critics, but James Suckling has already admitted he likes the 2015 “slightly better,” scoring it 98 points.
Almaviva 2016: Almaviva’s 2015 stole the show last year when it was announced as James Suckling’s 2017 wine of the year. The 2016, while not a perfect 100-point scorer, is still a “very fine and elegant” offering. Suckling gave it 97 points.
Solaia 2015: This Super Tuscan received 100 points from James Suckling, who called it “truly phenomenal” and asked if it could be “the greatest Solaia ever.”
Masseto 2015: Antonio Galloni has described the 2015 as “simply extraordinary,” awarding it 99 points and noting that “I can’t remember ever tasting a young Masseto with this much pure harmony.”
Beaucastel, Hommage J Perrin 2016: A firm favourite with critics, this one was awarded 98-100 points by Joe Czerwinkski of The Wine Advocate, and 99 points by Matt Walls of Decanter.
