US auction house Hart Dvis Hart kicked off its autumn season with its biggest ever sale, which was 100% sold and netted a total of US$16.7m.

Taking place in Chicago, the sale was dominated both in scale, quality and price by Burgundy. From some of the top Burgundy producers, six magnums of 1996 Montrachet from Domaine de la Romanee-Conti went for $113,525, while 12 bottles of Domaine Leroy’s 1991 Musigny and six magnums of Armand Rousseau's 1991 Chambertin Clos de Beze made $107,550 apiece.

Other highlights included three bottles of 1978 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Celestins from Henri Bonneau ($13,145), Jeroboams of 1986 Lafite ($11,352 each), a Melchior of 2005 Cheval Blanc ($21,510) and an imperial of 1989 Haut Brion ($20,315).

Some 67% of lots sold above their pre-sale high estimates, including Domaine Leroy’s 1990 Musigny, 1996 Echezeaux from Henri Jayer, and 1971 Clos de la Roche from Domaine Ponsot.
