Clarity Through Adversity: A Study of Vintage 2017

The 2017 vintage in Burgundy was not without its trials; an episode of frost in April gave way to a milder growing season, culminating in an early harvest. Such conditions often spell uncertainty, yet for the Richebourg plot, they have sculpted a wine of unexpected clarity and precision. It belies the fears that haunted the initial buds and blooms with a compelling narrative told through its bright yet profound flavours.

Upon decanting, the 2017 Richebourg reveals an aromatic palette that defies the year's early apprehensions. One finds notes of dark cherries and ripe strawberries weaving seamlessly with hints of violets and a subtle earthiness that speaks directly to the wine's noble pedigree. The palate unfolds with regal grace—a tapestry of red fruits supported by silken tannins and an indefatigable mineral spine. Through aging, it promises to develop even greater layers of complexity.

Matured in oak casks with ineffable care, there is no concealing the masterful craftsmanship from Domaine de la Romanee-Conti. While youth may cloak its full potential now, this 2017 Richebourg is projected as an estimable candidate for fine wine investment portfolios, destined to accrue both value and pronounced distinction with time.

A Vintage Deemed Investment Worthy

In sum, while other vintages may boast more conventional hallmarks of excellence, the 2017 Richebourg from Domaine de la Romanee-Conti carries within it a vibrancy and resilience that will undoubtedly pique the interest and palates of investors and connoisseurs alike. In its youth lies incipient splendour, marking it as one to watch carefully in one's cellar or portfolio.

The 2017 Richebourg Grand Cru offers up generous aromas of ripe strawberries, raspberries, cinnamon and coniferous forest floor, framed by a lavish application of creamy new oak that's less immediately integrated than in the Domaine's other wines at this early stage. On the palate, the Richebourg is full-bodied, rich and multidimensional, with a lavishly enveloping attack and supple structuring tannins that are almost entirely concealed by its deep core of fruit. Long and sapid, this is a spectacular wine in the making.
