2010 Clos St Denis from Domaine Dujac, Grand Cru, Burgundy
The year 2010 for Burgundy enthusiasts will reverberate as a season of hardship turned triumph, and the 2010 Clos St Denis from Domaine Dujac stands as a testament to such resilience. This particular vintage encapsulates the essence of this minuscule terroir within the prestigious Côte de Nuits, where a dramatic growing season brought forth a wine of unexpected splendour.
A Vintage Sculpted by Nature's Caprice
Burgundy’s 2010 harvest succeeded a summer that toyed with vignerons' nerves - cool, wet conditions interspersed with glorious sunshine led to a late and precarious flowering. Precision, patience, and the hand of an experienced winemaking team at Domaine Dujac coaxed excellence from adversity. This care is echoed in every sip of their 2010 Clos St Denis. In particular, one can marvel at the vibrant acidity and controlled tannins that highlight this wine’s impeccable structure.
An Investment in Terroir's Exquisite Poetry
Domaine Dujac’s rendition of this Grand Cru unfolds on the palate with a tapestry of complex aromas. One discerns the earthy undertones characteristic of great Burgundian Pinot Noir, followed by the dance of ripe cherries and blackcurrants interlaced with subtle spice. The impact of weather patterns has endowed this vintage with an exquisite tension and longevity, making it not only an epicure's delight but also a savvy addition to any investment portfolio.
The 2010 Clos St Denis from Domaine Dujac has navigated its decade since harvest with grace and vitality. As it approaches its period of optimal drinking, the wine offers investors both a tangible taste of history and the anticipation of continued refinement in years to come. For connoisseurs seeking a formidable example of Burgundy's temperamental yet rewarding nature, acquiring this vintage can be seen as both a prestigious collectable and a prudent endeavour.

Scores and tasting notes
The 2010 Clos St. Denis is downright explosive from the first taste. An exotic melange of dark cherries, plums, minerals and cloves are all supported by insistent underlying minerality. The wine continues to grow in the glass, as layers of flavor fill out its broad-shouldered frame nicely. Blackberries, cassis, menthol and licorice flow through to the textured finish. This is a breathtaking effort. It is also a wine for the very patient. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2045. Dujac fans will be thrilled with these 2010s. They are off the charts. The most difficult thing will no doubt be finding them. Jeremy Seysses reported yields down by 30-50% across the board, although his Morey blanc was down a whopping 90%. The poor flowering and wet summer resulted in loose bunches with a high amount of shot berries. The wines came in at 12 to 12.5% potential alcohol and were lightly chaptalized. Seysses used 80-90% stems for most of the wines, a little less for some, such as the Charmes and Combettes (around 70%) and more for the Chambertin and RSV (both 100%). Unfortunately, the 2010 Morey 1er Cru was too reduced to evaluate, so I will have to wait for another opportunity to taste the wine. I also tasted the entire range of 2009s. I will report on those wines in the April issue. Importers: The Sorting Table, Napa, CA; tel. (415) 491-4724; Martin Scott Wines, Little Neck, NY; tel.
