2010 Romanee St Vivant
By Domaine Dujac
2010 Romanee St Vivant from Domaine Dujac, Burgundy, France
The celebrated 2010 vintage of the Romanee St Vivant from Domaine Dujac demarcates itself with an arresting poise, asserting its standing amidst the pantheon of extraordinary Burgundian years. As one peers into the depths of the 2010 vintage, one discerns a year that was marked by climactic trials which, in turn, bestowed a limited yield of grapes encapsulating exceptional concentration and an illustrious balance of acidity and tannins.
Meticulous Craftsmanship Meets Exceptional Terroir
Witnessing a late bloom followed by an untroubled summer, the vines benefited from an extended maturation period. This protracted dalliance with nature did nothing but enhance the complexity of the Romanee St Vivant's profile. Domaine Dujac's scrupulous viticulture practices and minimal intervention during winemaking further allowed the wine’s terroir-driven character to shine unimpeded.
An Oenophile's Compendium to the Finesse of 2010
Swirling in my glass, the 2010 vintage reveals itself with a tantalising translucency, characteristic of a deeply nuanced Pinot Noir. Upon first nosing, there unfurls a bouquet burgeoning with vibrant red fruits; notes of dried strawberries and cherries underpinned by an earthy undertow and a whisper of spice. Each sip confirms these olfactory insinuations - the palate is coaxed open to reveal a tapestry woven with finesse: mature red fruit intertwined with hints of forest floor, all supported by an elegant structure that expects to evolve graciously over time.
In investment terms, this bottle represents not merely wine but a liquid artefact born from a year of contrasts - scarcity coupled with splendour. The 2010 Romanee St Vivant from Domaine Dujac encapsulates both the hardships and triumphs of its vintage; its rarity, precision and potential for longevity undoubtedly underscore its allure in fine wine investment circles.
The Pleasure Principle: Invest in Sensory Heritage
This symphony of senses marries enhanced collectability with palpable pleasure. As it stoically stands to gain in complexity and value, collectors and investors would be savvy to consider the 2010 Romanee St Vivant from Domaine Dujac as not only a centrepiece for their portfolio but their palate too. Time shall only amplify its narrative, rich as it is in the lore of one of Burgundy's most storied estates and expressive vintages.

Scores and tasting notes
The 2010 Romanee Saint Vivant comes across as quite delicate, floral and feminine. Sweet red cherries, crushed flowers and mint wrap around the finish in this weightless, airy RSV. I have seen this wine grow significantly once it is in bottle, and expect that will be the case here as well. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040. Dujac fans will be thrilled with these 2010s. They are off the charts. The most difficult thing will no doubt be finding them. Jeremy Seysses reported yields down by 30-50% across the board, although his Morey blanc was down a whopping 90%. The poor flowering and wet summer resulted in loose bunches with a high amount of shot berries. The wines came in at 12 to 12.5% potential alcohol and were lightly chaptalized. Seysses used 80-90% stems for most of the wines, a little less for some, such as the Charmes and Combettes (around 70%) and more for the Chambertin and RSV (both 100%). Unfortunately, the 2010 Morey 1er Cru was too reduced to evaluate, so I will have to wait for another opportunity to taste the wine. I also tasted the entire range of 2009s. I will report on those wines in the April issue. Importers: The Sorting Table, Napa, CA; tel. (415) 491-4724; Martin Scott Wines, Little Neck, NY; tel.
