By Domaine Leroy

2014 Richebourg Grand Cru from Domaine Leroy, Burgundy, France

The world of fine wine cherishes few names as revered as Domaine Leroy, and in the firmament of Burgundy greats, the 2014 Richebourg Grand Cru from this iconic estate shines brightly indeed. With an enviable patchwork of lauded terroirs at her fingertips, Lalou Bize-Leroy sculpted a 2014 vintage that resolutely reinforces her status as a vigneronne nonpareil.

Harmonious Complexity: A Hallmark of Investment Fidelity

The 2014 vintage in Burgundy was marked by a series of horticultural hurdles, ultimately yielding a crop that delivered wines of magnificent complexity and finesse. The season's capricious nature necessitated a precision in viticulture that is the sine qua non at Domaine Leroy. Here, biodynamics is not merely a philosophy but an ardent creed that arguably manifests most eloquently in their Richebourg Grand Cru.

From its evocation of dark berries and cherries to the hypnotic dance of exotic spices and earthy undertones on the nose, the 2014 Richebourg beguiles with its potent yet poised bouquet. One is treated to a cerebral tension in the glass; a mingling of robust structure with layers of silken tannins that unfurl into a long, supple finish. The interplay between fruit and terroir-centricity here is nothing short of profound.

An Epitome of Elegance and Cultivation

Tasting this wine is like conducting an orchestra of flavours; each sip offers harmonies of currants, truffles, leather, and a signature smoky cloak that enwraps the palate with a regal grace. Its intricate flavor profile bears witness to the scrupulous care taken in fostering its journey from vine to bottle.

This particular iteration—the 2014 Richebourg Grand Cru from Domaine Leroy—possesses an alchemy of elegance and intensity, a formulation sought after by astute wine investors and collectors who cherish both pedigree and potential. With its auspicious balance, it stands poised for further maturation, promising evolution into even greater sophistication over time. This is undoubtedly one to anchor any serious Burgundy collection with confidence.

In summing up the essence of the 2014 Richebourg Grand Cru from Domaine Leroy: it is a wine that depicts not only the fortitude of Burgundian winemaking in a challenging year but also cements itself as a stellar asset in the realms of fine wine investment—a bastion of both aromatic allure and enduring value.

The 2014 Richebourg Grand Cru is more backward than the Romanée-Saint-Vivant at the moment (the opposite to Hudelot-Noëllat the previous day when it was the other way round). Here, there is a very subtle marine/seaweed influence that tinctures that dark berry fruit. The palate is defined by its very fine tannin, the focus and tension interwoven through every atom of this Richebourg; the finish is surfeit with nervosité and tension so that is slips down the throat (guilty!) with so much ease. Wonderful -- one of the wines of the vintage.
