The eponymous Ornellaia, made from the four main Bordeaux varietals, is widely considered Italy’s best answer to a great Bordeaux-style wine. In 2020, Ornellaia jumped a remarkable 85 places in Liv-ex’s Power 100 ranking into the sixth spot, the third highest ranked Italian wine behind Sassicaia (#2) and Gaja (#1).

Not all super Tuscans are red
Ornellaia is a pioneer of the white Super Tuscan. In 2013, it launched Ornellaia Bianco, which, like its red cousin, is made from international grape varieties - 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Viognier. Only 4,000 bottles are produced, a mere 2.5% of the amount of red! But while quantity has been small, performance has been grand. Recent vintages are up over 100% since their releases.
