2017 Vosne Romanee les Suchots from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, Burgundy

In the realm of Burgundian finesse, the 2017 vintage from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair stands as a testament to the nuanced expression that the Vosne Romanee les Suchots can deliver. This specific year was blessed with a serendipitous concatenation of climatic benevolence and viticultural savvy, enshrining it amongst the most laudable vintages to emerge from this patchwork of illustrious terroirs.

Unequivocally Elegant

As I nosed the 2017 vintage, it became lucid that Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair had mustered an eloquent synergy of berry compote and quintessential Vosne spices which fused seamlessly with earthier undertones and polished wood. This wine's architecture espouses a robust framework while retaining that ephemeral lace-like texture so revered in Pinot Noirs from these climes.

Investment-Worthy Vintage

The 2017 Vosne Romanee les Suchots from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair asserts itself as a prudent addition to any fine wine portfolio—intriguing for connoisseurs, and promising for investors. The season's moderate yielding crop and precise vinification techniques spotlight a density of flavour seldom encountered outside these vineyard walls. As it matures, one can anticipate its layers to unfurl like a carefully penned manuscript, revealing subtleties with each passing annum.

With each sip, I'm reminded of why Burgundy continues to bewitch us with wines that not only echo their lineage but also whisper the secrets of their vintage. The 2017 Suchots is eloquence encapsulated; its grace in a glass can captivate now and will only burgeon with time.

In Summation

In an era where Burgundy vintages are often mired amidst hyperbolic discourse, it becomes increasingly challenging to approach each review with a fresh perspective. Yet, the 2017 Vosne Romanee les Suchots from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair reinvigorates my palette and furnishes my lexicon with newfound adjectives. It is precisely this calibre of viticultural achievement that maintains Burgundy's storied reputation amongst oenophiles and investors alike. A wine undeniably deserving of space in any cellar; its potential for appreciation in both sensory delight and investment value is as clear as the rich ruby hue in its glass.

From a parcel of vines right by the village cemetery, the 2017 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots wafts from the glass with aromas of cassis, wild plums, spices, potpourri, beetroot and French roast. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, sumptuous and layered, with a generous core of fruit that largely conceals its melting tannins, juicy acids, and a long, tangy and wood-inflected finish.
