Haut Batailley 2017 has been released at €42 per bottle ex-negociant, and is offered by the international trade at £495 per 12×75. As Liv-ex notes, this price puts it above all other recent vintages from the estate.

According to Decanter’s Jane Anson, “JC Cazes has big plans for the estate”. The Cazes family – also owners of Lynch Bages – bought Haut Batailley before last year’s En Primeur campaign, and chose not to release the 2016 vintage until it’s in-bottle. Some might suggest these plans have been reflected in today’s release price.

Nonetheless, the wine has won favour with critics. James Suckling called it “one of the best Haut Batailleys in years” and gave it 94-95 points, while Jeb Dunnuck gave it 92-94 points and dubbed it “a true gem in the vintage”.

Liv-ex suggests that those looking for alternative buying options might consider the newly-bottled 2015, which is has comparable score and is available in the secondary market at £336 per 12×75, a 32% discount to today’s release.
