2016 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux

By Chateau Margaux

2016 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux, Margaux, Bordeaux, France

The 2016 vintage from the heraldic vineyards of Bordeaux was a beacon of vinous excellence, and within this paragon of viticultural prowess shines the 2016 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux. This younger sibling to the fabled Grand Vin de Chateau Margaux is a testament to the meticulous vineyard management and enlightened oenological practices that are de rigueur at this storied estate.

A Vintage Defined by Poise and Precision

In 2016, the Margaux appellation experienced an amalgam of climatic conditions that laid down the gauntlet early, only to present winegrowers with an opportunity for redemption through a glorious Indian summer. This benevolent pivot in the weather provided the precise circumstances needed for the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot vines to bestow grapes of optimal ripeness and balance.

The resultant wine, a profuse yet articulate chorus of blackberry, cassis, and floral motifs such as violets, is underpinned by an undercurrent of fine-grained tannins. The oak influence is astutely integrated — a seasoned conductor orchestrating a symphony of vanilla and subtle spice without overpowering the ensemble. Harmonious proportions of fruit, acidity, and structure raise the baton for what has been heralded as one of the most collectible seconds wines.

Laying Down Foundations for Future Oenophiles

A true testament to its lineage, the 2016 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux showcases how meticulous cultivation and a masterful touch in blending can exalt a challenging year into an exceptional one. Investors keen on enriching their portfolios with depth and diversity would be wise to secure allocations of this vintage.

Each sip proffers a tantalizing glimpse into the Chateau's ability to craft wines that age with grace and gravitas. As time unfolds, collectors will find this 2016 Pavillon Rouge metamorphosing eloquently in their cellars — an investment poised for both pleasure and prosperity.

So if the ambition is to vest in a vintage that reflects both the charm of Margaux terroir and the resilience against climatical caprice, then embracing the 2016 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux will most assuredly prove to be a sagacious decision.

Very concentrated and tannic Pavillon Rouge. Muscular. Full body and lots of intense fruit. Four-square.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux (composed of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot) bursts forth with exuberant Morello cherries, black raspberries and cassis scents accented by touches of menthol, dark chocolate and garrigue plus a waft of tree bark. The palate is medium-bodied, very elegant, vivacious and fresh with satiny tannins and a nice long finish.

Quite bright cherry red rather than deep crimson. Great quality sandy tannins. Really zesty. But light and very aérien. Really lifted.
