2016's Vintage Distinction: Defining Pauillac Elegance
The year 2016 was lauded for its near-idyllic conditions: a tempered summer followed by an impeccable late growing season coaxed out the best in Bordeaux’s cabernet sauvignon-led blends. At Chateau Haut-Batailley, these climatic nuances translated into a symphony of structure and balance that is rarely achieved with such grace.
This vintage exhibits a rich tapestry of deep fruit profiles - the cassis and plum one longs for in a Pauillac are there in abundance, cushioned by sinewy tannins and a spine of acidity that promises glorious aging potential. Subtle hints of graphite and cedar weave through the olfactory narrative, an ode to the well-drained gravel soils that characterise the esteemed region.

Lifted, sweet and very Pauillac on the nose. Thick and sweet on the palate though – rather different from the nose. Pretty sharp on the palate with some overtones of the right bank even though the nose is pure Pauillac. Quite a dramatic play, this wine! Drama in spades.
