By Chateau Lafite Rothschild
2007 Carruades de Lafite from Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac, Bordeaux
The 2007 vintage at Chateau Lafite Rothschild proved to be as intriguing as it was challenging. Under the auspices of a cooler-than-typical Bordeaux summer and early rains just before harvest season, the storied winery showcased their prowess by producing a Carruades de Lafite that defied expectations and delighted investors and aficionados alike.
An Exemplar of Elegance and Complexity
Against the backdrop of mixed climatic blessings, the 2007 Carruades de Lafite exhibits a flair for poise and sophistication. This Pauillac blend expresses a subtle yet complex nose, merging the earthy tones of its terroir with a breath of dark cherries and cassis. The subtle influence of oak is judiciously applied - ensuring a harmonious balance between fruit and wood, without either dominating the sensory conversation.
A Vintage That Commands Attention
On the palate, this vintage tells a tale of precision and patience; it introduces itself with a polite firmness. The typically robust tannins of a youthful Pauillac are tempered here into something far more supple, a result no doubt of an exacting selection process in difficult weather conditions. The 2007 Carruades de Lafite offers investors not just a delightful drinking experience but also an interesting prospect for maturation – a wine that promises to reveal further secrets with time.
In the context of investment, the value of this particular offering from Chateau Lafite Rothschild should not be underestimated. Possessing both the pedigree of its esteemed lineage and the unique story of its vintage year, this wine is one poised to captivate the market.
In summarising the 2007 Carruades de Lafite, one finds a wine at once elegant and assertive, weaving complex notes into a delicate tapestry, one that pays homage to its superb Pauillac heritage while embracing the singular personality imparted by an unpredictable season.

The second wine, the 2007 Carraudes de Lafite, is nearly equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with tiny dollops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. A sleeper of the vintage, it offers sexy, ripe berry fruit intermixed with hints of cedarwood, forest floor, and underbrush. This plump, corpulent, fruity effort reveals a velvety texture as well as a lush finish. Enjoy it over the next 8-10 years.

Tasted blind at the 2007 Bordeaux horizontal in Southwold. The nose is rather disjointed at the moment with sulky dark fruits, sous-bois, dark cherries and boysenberry tinged with iodine. The palate has a sharp and slightly tinny entry with crisp acidity and attractive pure raspberry coulis and strawberry towards the long finish. This is a decent if rather foursquare Carruades just compromised by the aromatics. Tasted January 2011.
