Precision and Poise: Exemplar of an Exceptional Terroir

The 2013 narrative in Burgundy was replete with challenges; from late spring frosts to a cooler summer which demanded meticulous vineyard management and astute selection by the harvesters. However, it is precisely these hurdles that have gilded this vintage with an extraordinary balance of acidity and maturation. The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos-Saint-Jacques harnesses this tension to present a wine rich in layered complexity, melding ripe red fruits with an undercurrent of minerality so intrinsic to its limestone-rich soils.

A Vintage Reflecting Resilience and Robustness

The perspicacity of Domaine Armand Rousseau resonates throughout this wine. Guided by Eric Rousseau, the domaine's virtuosity in vinification shines through, as each sip proffers a tapestry of cherry and blackcurrant notes interlaced with the slightest hint of earthy truffle and confident tannins - attributes that affirm its place as one of the standout performers in what was an unpredictable year in the region.

Fine wine investors often seek out vintages that exemplify resilience amidst adversity, for within their folds lie unpredictable treasures. The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos-Saint-Jacques stands as one such monument, offering both longevity and an intricate taste profile that speaks volumes of its birth year's triumphs.

To possess a bottle from Domaine Armand Rousseau is equally an investment in artistry as it is in enology. A commitment to excellence pulses through this wine, setting an invigorating precedent for collectors looking to augment their portfolios with a vintage which will undoubtedly ascend in both value and prestige as it elegantly matures.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques from Rousseau has an elegant bouquet with pure red cherry, sous-bois and rose petal scents that blossom in the glass. Just gorgeous! The palate is very well balanced with crisp tannin, very well judged acidity with raspberry, redcurrant and plenty of spice towards the beautifully composed, elegant but quite powerful finish. Top class. Tasted September 2016.
