2007 Corton Charlemagne from Domaine Coche-Dury, Burgundy, France

In the grand tapestry of Bourgogne's illustrious terroir, a singular thread stands out for its majestic interpretation of Chardonnay: the 2007 Corton Charlemagne from Domaine Coche-Dury. This bespoke vintage resonates with the connoisseurs whose palates appreciate wines that balance power with finesse.

Epochal Eloquence in a Bottle

The 2007 growing season in Burgundy was marked by an initial cool period followed by warm summer days, bestowing upon the grapes a harmonious phenolic ripeness laced with a striking acidic backbone. The 2007 Corton Charlemagne captured this climatic dance exquisitely, evoking an alchemy that only a producer like Domaine Coche-Dury, with their intuitive understanding of viticulture, could manifest.

Intricacy and Investment Merit

The investment allure of this particular bottle lies nested within its intricate flavour profile. When savouring this delicate potion, one uncovers layers of orchard fruits intermingled with flinty undertones and an elusive hint of honeyed almonds, undoubtedly contributions from its judicious aging in fine oak. The texture on the palate offers a luxurious depth one associates with the finest renditions of Corton Charlemagne.

The longevity of the 2007 vintage is noteworthy; remaining vibrant yet suggestive of the complexities it will reveal in years to come. This proclivity not only endears it to collectors but also accentuates its appeal as an investment-grade wine.

In sum, considering its prestigious origins and remarkable vintage character, the 2007 Corton Charlemagne from Domaine Coche-Dury expresses a narrative of its year—a narrative punctuated by climatic resilience and vinicultural artisanship.

A Symphonic Summary

Thus, this serene elixir is indeed worthy of its place amidst the pantheon of collectable Burgundy whites. A singular expression from a season synoptic with balanced fervour; Domaine Coche-Dury’s 2007 Corton Charlemagne possesses all the elements desired by discerning investors and collectors alike—pedigree, rarity, and a mesmeric evolution that promises to continue for many years hence.

The 2007 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a taut, racy vintage of this great wine, unfurling with extended aeration to reveal aromas of green apples, citrus oil, white flowers, struck match and a subtle top note of petrol. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, chiseled and intense, with a bright line of acidity, a tight-knit core and a searingly stony finish. With less flesh on its bones than the 2008, this vintage shares some of the 2004's qualities, but I suspect the 2007 will always be finer-boned. I'd cellar this for another couple of years, but anyone planning to drink it now should consider decanting.
