In the pantheon of Burgundy’s greatest hits, the 1995 Batard-Montrachet from Domaine Leflaive stands as a monumental offering. A Harvest Against the Odds
One might recall 1995 in Burgundy as a year when vignerons were at the mercy of nature. Yet it was this very capriciousness that birthed the exceptional quality and intense concentration found within this vintage. The 1995 Batard-Montrachet triumphantly showcases how sublime intricacy can emerge from tension, presenting a narrative of resiliency through its vinous structure.
An Exemplar of Age-Worthy Sophistication
With grandeur and grace, this wine articulates the dialogues between earth and element. Here, balanced acidity carries whispers of toasted almonds and honeycomb, a testament to the exemplary ageing potential of this esteemed vintage. The 1995 has unfurled slowly, revealing layers of complexity that capture Domaine Leflaive’s deft hand at nurturing Chardonnay to its apex within the Grand Cru tapestry.
Investors have witnessed how this vintage has transcended time’s test, maturing into a richly woven landscape of aromas and flavours; one can indulge in reveries of baked apples interlaced with captivating mineral undertones.
In summation, as I reflect upon the illustrious evolution of Domaine Leflaive’s offerings, the 1995 Batard-Montrachet is distinguished by its evolutionary prowess. With two and a half decades behind it, it remains enduringly enticing, positioned with aplomb among Burgundy's elites for the discerning investor seeking to enrich their portfolio with a touchstone vintage from an iconic domaine.

The delightful Meursault Goutte d'Or, harvested at a whopping 13.5% natural potential alcohol, has a nose composed of minerals, honeysuckle blossoms, stones, and citrus fruits. This creamy-textured, masculine, and dense wine explodes on the palate with a dizzying array of tropical fruits, hazelnut butter, candied lemons, and spicy oak. It is full-bodied, hedonistic, and powerful. It would have merited a more glowing review if its finish had not betrayed its high level of alcohol. Drink it between 2001 and 2006.
