Artistry in a Bottle: A Vintage Distinct

The prowess of the 1999 vintage emerges with vivacity in this remarkable Grand Cru. The year was marked by a harmonious balance of warmth and precipitation—conditions that conspired to foster grapes with concentrated flavours while retaining an invigorating acidity. Domaine Leroy, guided by the intuitive hand of Lalou Bize-Leroy, has expertly captured this climatic serendipity.

A Legacy Preserved: Investment Merits Unveiled

As fine wine enthusiasts seek out illustrious bottles that transcend time, investment in well-preserved vintages like the 1999 offers substantial allure. The wine's structure is a concerto of robust tannins and elegant fruit preservation reflecting its praiseworthy ageing potential. Tasting notes reveal a mélange of ripe cherries and blackcurrants that dance amongst whispers of earthiness and an undercurrent of sophisticated spice—a profile that truly sets this Musigny apart from contemporaries within the lauded oeuvre of Domaine Leroy.

The investment merits are bolstered by the bottle's relative scarcity and its revered origin. Burgundy connoisseurs recognise the intrinsic value of such a singular expression from one of the finest patches of terroir, underlined by 1999's climatic grace.

To invest in the 1999 Musigny Grand Cru from Domaine Leroy is to embrace a canvas painted with historical significance and unparalleled craftsmanship. "If I were Parker, I'd give this 100 points," said Mme. Bize-Leroy as she poured the medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Musigny. Its demure aromatics reveal spices, violets, cherries, and hints of veal demi-glace. Medium to full-bodied and satin-textured, it is a lovely, detailed, feminine wine with loads of depth to its red fruit, spice, and flower-flavored personality. This seamless, elegant wine also possesses an exceptionally long, pure, and supple finish. When tasted in January of 2000 out of barrel, I believed this was potentially perfect wine, but shortly after bottling, it appears to be an exceptional wine with the potential to become even better with cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2018. Importer: Martine's Wines, San Raphael, CA; tel. (415) 485-1800.
