1997 Barbaresco Asili D.O.C.G. from Bruno Giacosa

In the course of my unquenchable journey through the mélange of terroirs, I have discovered few gems with as much clarity and spirit as the 1997 Barbaresco Asili D.O.C.G. from Bruno Giacosa. This bright star on Italy's vinous horizon remains a celestial object of desire for discerning wine investors.

A Vintage of Distinction

The year 1997 blessed Piedmont with a benevolent blend of climatic conditions, setting apart this vintage with its vibrant expression. A moderately cold winter, seamlessly followed by a warm spring, pre-empted a hot summer with enough rainfall to prevent vine stress. The conditions resulted in an early but uniformly ripened harvest, adding to this vintage's unique varietal definition.

From the Heart of Giacosa's Vineyard

Bruno Giacosa, the famed maestro of blending tradition and modernity, brought an artisan touch to the enological artistry. This 1997 Barbaresco Asili D.O.C.G. reflects an eloquent interaction between Nebbiolo grapes and Piedmont’s limestone strata. By limiting yield meticulously and extending maceration, Giacosa harnessed an extraordinary potpourri of flavours while maintaining finesse.

A Divine Symphony for the Taste Buds

On the nose, this exquisite creation unfolds notes of roses and ripe red fruits that intermingle with undercurrents of exotic spices and truffles. The vibrant acidity and firm tannic structure elegantly oppose the rich fruit core, leading towards a lengthy, memorable finish - a testament to Nebbiolo's power in aged wines.

Investment-grade Italian Excellence

Savvy wine investors closely eye fine wines from Italy, like the 1997 Barbaresco Asili D.O.C.G., as they provide a value-driven, tangible asset that ages with grace. The capacity of well-crafted wines to appreciate in both financial and sensory value makes them an endearing investment commodity. In this context, the 1997 Barbaresco Asili D.O.C.G. from Bruno Giacosa shines with potential.

In conclusion, this vintage stands as a magnificent testament to Bruno Giacosa's mastery and Piedmont’s generous terroir. It is a prized addition to any wine investment portfolio, and continues to retain its enchantment, alluring even seasoned aficionados.

The 1997 Barbaresco Asili has developed stunningly since it was first tasted, a typical characteristic of Giacosa's wines. Surprisingly precocious and evolved for a wine from this estate, it possesses a dark ruby color with an amber edge, and abundant quantities of tobacco, cherry liqueur, incense, spice box, and licorice in its flamboyant nose. It is like candy, fleshy, full-bodied, unctuous, and silky. This seamless classic should drink well young, and last for 12-15 years. A Leonardo Locascio Selection, Winebow, Hohokus, NJ; tel.
