By Tenuta San Guido
2012 Sassicaia from Tenuta San Guido
The year 2012 lavished particular gifts on Tenuta San Guido, the renowned winery nestled amidst the enchanting scenery of Bolgheri in Tuscany, Italy. This distinguished climate and terroir resulted in a vintage that acknowledges the dynamic prowess of its blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc - the 2012 Sassicaia.
Vibrancy and complexity: The mark of a remarkable vintage
Where some vintages may bear a vibrancy that catches the palate off guard, the 2012 Sassicaia dances adroitly between exuberance and nuance. It treats the taste buds to an intriguing sense of measured brightness; an involving exchange between lush dark fruit flavours and an underlying minerality that bears homage to its illustrious terroir.
The charm of this fine wine lies in its ability to offer layered complexity while retaining an approachable allure. Its harmonious marriage of taut acidity, velvety tannins, and concentrated fruit flavours sets it apart as one of the most remunerative prospects for those manoeuvring in high-end wine investment circles.
Tuscan treasure: An investment worth savouring
Tuscany’s tenure on the global stage as a top-tier producer in the realm of fine wines from Italy is unassailable. The climate conditions of this region, unconventional soil composition and meticulous attention to detail form part of the DNA that builds up the pedigree of 2012 Sassicaia from Tenuta San Guido.
Sassicaia posits an investment that is as much about the heart as about numbers. Given its resilience to age marvellously over time, it provides investors with unique access into Tuscany's wine-making opulence, offering a sensory journey quite unlike any other.
The 2012 Sassicaia from Tenuta San Guido is emblematic of this truth. It serves as a mind-opening lens into the magic that unfolds in Bolgheri, showcasing the region’s potential to create a wine that impresses with its grace and vitality, proving it to be an exceptional year that stands tall amidst the annals of Italian wine history.

From an early-ripening vintage, the 2012 Bolgheri Sassicaia shows bold lines and thick color concentration. It does exhibit a classic Sassicaia bouquet, but it does so minus that delicate floral embroidery that comes forth with such delight in 2013. This wine shows a harder, more determined edge. It is less remarkable overall, considering the amazing heights achieved in other vintages. It also reveals thin to medium texture. This Sassicaia roars in terms of bouquet, but offers more of a whimper in terms of mouthfeel. All the elements are there, but they are delivered in a more undertone and one-dimensional manner. It will probably flesh out further with more bottle age, but that leanness is just part of the 2012 vintage.
