2003 Redigaffi
By Tua Rita
The 2003 Redigaffi from Tua Rita, Italy's Tulip of the Wine Industry
Much like the mesmerising beauty of its Tuscan origin, the 2003 Redigaffi from Tua Rita paints an intoxicating tapestry that warrants profound admiration. Known to connoisseurs as the thriving beacon of Italian Merlot production, Tua Rita has consistently enamoured fine wine investors with its mastery of indigenous varietals.
The Unusual Weather Patterns and Their Impact
The year 2003 was one that aptly underscored nature's whimsy. Grapes braved a wildly swinging pendulum of extreme weather, culminating in a vintage rich in character and complexity. Springtime brought an unseasonably hot temperature, followed by a cold snap that drew out the vines' resilience. What followed was a toastingly hot summer that provided optimal ripening conditions for the early-harvested Merlot grape variety.
Enchanting Exuberance in Every Drop
The 2003 Redigaffi proudly wears this challenging year like a badge of honor, offering thirsty aficionados a glass full of structured intensity. Its opulent bouquet promises velvety fruits steeped in winter spice. On the palate, the luscious darkness descends with dense layers of ripe plum and black cherry, shoaled by hints of truffle and dried violets - echoing Tuscany's diverse terroirs.
Subsequent sips lure forth sultry tannins, commingling with well-directed acidity to frame the undulating symphony of fruit and earthiness with precision. The climactic finish reveals nuances of worn leather and mocha, symbolically tipping its hat to the wine's distinguished ageing potential.
A Portfolio Gem for Discerning Investors
The visage of Tua Rita in the fine wines from Italy is an essential feature for any savvy wine collector. Its calibre is evident in the intensity of this commanding Italian Merlot, which juggles strength and finesse in such equal measures that it paints an unforgettable picture.
The 2003 Redigaffi stands testament to its producer's dedication to quality and integrity – qualities resonating deeply with fine wine investors scouring for wines constituting both a sensory delight and a tangible asset.
The unique climatic conditions captured in this bottle, like bottled lightning, provides a time capsule from a distinctive year, culminating into a masterpiece that's as enthralling as it's investable.

Scores and tasting notes
Tua Rita’s 2003 Redigaffi, 100% Merlot, opens with notes of over-ripeness on the nose. An initial suggestion of reduction blows of with air. It presents plenty of fruit, chocolate and toasted oak along with a richly concentrated, opulent personality, yet a note of gaminess and hard, unripe tannins ultimately convey the impression of a less polished version of this wine than is normally the case. My preference is to drink Redigaffi on the young side. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2013. Importer: Winebow, Montvale, NJ; tel. (201) 445-0620; fax (201) 445-9868
