Sometimes, a vintage comes along that captures the very essence of its origin. The 2011 Scarecrow from Scarecrow effortlessly demonstrates the supreme dynamism and versatility of fine wines from the USA's premier terroirs.

Nurturing nature to create a masterpiece

The winemakers at Scarecrow implemented traditional techniques of world-class viniculture, allowing the vineyard's unique climate and soil to fully express themselves in this 2011 vintage. Committed to quality over quantity, they strategically navigated the unique challenges posed by the year's weather patterns.

A cooling trend defined 2011 in the much-vaunted Rutherford region where Scarecrow's vines glimpse the sunlight. This led to vibrant acid levels and expressive fruit characteristics, encasing this stunning vintage in a cloak of elegance and intrigue.

Emerging triumph from the trials of 2011

The 2011 Scarecrow from Scarecrow suggests an enchanting tale of resilience beneath its lavish charm. The concentrated richness of dark fruit aromatics exemplifies the winemaker's adroit handling of a challenging vintage. Subtle hints of coco and sweet tobacco interplay with black currant, promising a palate that benchmarks the wine's pledge for thoughtful intricacy.

Riding on the vibrant freshness gifted by 2011's notable climatic conditions, robust flavours unfold with every sip. A harmony of black cherry, blackberry preserve and opulent truffle engages the senses, supported by an impactful structure that will garner attention from serious wine investors.

Impeccable aging potential - an opportunity for investors

With its firm tannic backbone affirmed by beautiful acidity, the 2011 Scarecrow from Scarecrow has an undeniable aging potential, which makes it a compelling choice for long-term fine wine investment. The rich layers of complexity in this vintage invite further exploration, promising to unfold beautifully over time.

Ultimately, the 2011 Scarecrow serves as a masterful testament to American terroir’s inherent finesse and grace, underscoring its enviable positioning amidst the world's cellar-worthy classics. This is one of the vintages that perfectly embodies the art of turning nature's unpredictability into a vinous narrative of triumph.

A notable success in an extremely irregular vintage (even more so for Napa’s valley floor vineyards), the 2011 Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon possesses a deep ruby/plum/purple color, and a slightly lighter weight and less of a serious foundation of structure than the 2010. However, the wine’s purity and hints of kirsch, black currants, berry fruit and toasty oak are well-displayed and well-integrated into this seamlessly constructed effort. It is on a relatively fast evolutionary track so drink it over the next 10-15 years. These have been enviable wines since I first started tasting them thanks primarily to Celia Welch, the consulting winemaker at this historic estate in Rutherford. They have added a quasi-second wine called M. Etain, which is brilliantly packaged. Of course, it is what’s in the bottle that really counts. Tel. (707) 963-3361
