2000 Chateau Faugeres

By Chateau Peby Faugeres

2000 Château Faugères from Château Péby Faugères, Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux

As we reflect upon the remarkable vintage that marked the commencement of a new millennium, the 2000 Château Faugères indeed stands as a testament to the exceptional conditions of the year. Nestled within the prestigious Saint-Émilion appellation, this offering from Château Péby Faugères is a beacon of meticulous viticulture and adroit vinification.

A Vintage Speckled with Opulence

The year 2000 unfurled as one of those remarkable vintages where Bordeaux’s weather gods were benevolent, resulting in wines that exude both concentration and elegance. The wine in question, crafted from vines deeply rooted in limestone and clay, benefitted immensely from such serendipitous climatic munificence. This promising landscape manifests in the wine through tannins that are both opulent and precisely structured—a duality that speaks volumes about its ageing potential.

A Reflection of Terroir and Time

The 2000 Château Faugères from Château Péby Faugères encapsulates the essence of its homeland with aplomb. Fragrant with dark cherries, plum compote, and an undercurrent of truffle and graphite, it weaves complexity within every sip. The balance achieved here—between ripeness of fruit and tempering acidity—is nothing short of symphonic, a marriage of factors owed to the unique terroir and an outstanding vintage.

For investors looking to augment their portfolios with a wine that has both immediate allure and the promise of longevity, this vintage offers an intriguing proposition. Its composition embodies a lavishly textured palate where supple dark berry fruits intertwine effortlessly with smoky notes of cedar wood—a profile indicative of exemplary cellaring prowess.

Careful cellaring over the last two decades has allowed the 2000 Château Faugères to herald maturity with grace—a transformation that discerning collectors will find alluring. While its nuances are a paean to its distinguished origins, it's the harmonious blend of power and poise that cements this wine as a sterling choice for investment-worthy collections.

Poised Grandeur: A Connoisseur’s Investment

In conclusion, those with a penchant for Bordeaux reds characterised by impeccable provenance will find the 2000 Château Faugères an essential addition. Here is a vintage characterised by its poised grandeur —a rare attribute that sets it apart within the pantheon of fine wines from this storied region. This offering from Château Péby Faugères stands primed to reward investors and connoisseurs alike with an embodied experience of exquisite claret craftsmanship.

The luxury cuvee from Faugeres (owned by Bernard Magrez), the 2000 Peby Faugeres is the real deal. Sadly, only 500+ cases were made of this compelling St.-Emilion. An inky/blue/purple hue is accompanied by aromas of espresso roast, blueberry liqueur, smoke, and graphite. Thick and unctuously-textured with impressive purity and depth as well as full-bodied power and richness, it needs another 2-3 years of cellaring, and should last for two decades.
