Tasting Notes Rieussec 1986
A youthful golden colour. Moderate intensity on the nose of white flowers, almond, coconut and a touch of honey and yet it does not really grab you. The palate is full-bodied, well balanced with notes of honey, citrus lemon, and marmalade. Well-poised though not incredibly complex. Perhaps this will improve with another 5-8 years ageing. Perfectly drinking now but I would leave just in case it improves. Great depth and persistency. Tasted November 2006. Drinking 2012-2025.
The 1986 is a complex and elegant wine, with plenty of smoky almonds, peaches, and honeyed apricot fruit in the nose and flavors. In the mouth, the wine has a certain elegance, and perhaps not quite the punch one normally expects from Rieussec. Nevertheless, it is a compelling Sauternes that should age magnificently. Anticipated maturity: 1994-2010. Last tasted, 1/93.
