2009 Rieussec from Chateau Rieussec, Sauternes, Bordeaux

In the firmament of Bordeaux sweet wines, the starred 2009 Rieussec from Chateau Rieussec is a shining beacon of exceptional quality. This vintage represents one of the definitive climaxes in the region's winemaking calendar, juxtaposed against a backdrop of optimal growing conditions that coaxed the finest expressions from the venerable terroir of Sauternes.

A Vintage Unveiled

The 2009 harvest was greeted by sighs of relief and smiles of contentment across Sauternes - here was a vintage bestowed with generosity from the heavens. The weather patterns had smiled benevolently upon the vines: a dry summer furnished the necessary stress for rich concentration of flavours, and the autumnal mists introduced the noble rot, botrytis cinerea, which is so crucial to the unique profile of this locale's sweet elixirs.

On sampling the 2009 Rieussec, one is shuttled forthwith to an orchard in full, glorious decay - a symphony of marmalade, apricot preserves and honeyed quince dances on the palate. Notes of toasted almond and caramel whisper tales of oak ageing, whilst a fresh acidity ensures that this assemblage maintains an exquisite balance - a tightrope act between lush sweetness and invigorating zest.

Investment in Liquid Artistry

As an investment piece, 2009 Rieussec exemplifies a vintage endowed with both immediate pleasure and potential for graceful ageing. Savvy investors recognize its merit; this Chateau Rieussec offering is keenly sought after, hinting at a promising augmentation in value as it further matures in bottle.

Imbibers and investors alike are encouraged to secure positions in this liquid asset; with each passing year, its narrative deepens - much like its golden hue - evolving into an increasingly complex and profound experience. Indeed, the conscientious collector will perceive not just an exceptional Sauternes from 2009 but also a burgeoning legend within each cork-sealed vessel.

The 2009 Rieussec unfurls its storied pedigree within every glass poured - an investment in premier viticulture and sheer tasting delight. Crafting contentment with each vintage, it stands as a sought-after jewel in any connoisseur’s collection.

Lots of caramel and Seville orange. Apricots, vanilla and sultanas. Intensely sweet on the palate with a deep texture and and good complexity. This Sauternes is wonderfully long and dense with superb purity and precision. Extravagant sweet wine. Drinks amazingly well already now, so why wait?

Pale to medium gold colored, the 2009 Rieussec sings of crème caramel, chopped nuts, baked apples and spiced pears with hints of jasmine, peach blossoms and beeswax. Full-bodied, rich and decadently creamy in the mouth, the multilayered palate is beautifully lifted with fantastic freshness. It has a very long finish offering a lasting impression of great elegance and finesse. Simply stunning.

The team at Chateau Rieussec have conjured a stellar wine in 2009. There is a little reduction at first that fortunately blows away, revealing thickly layered scents of honey, Danish pastry and quince that appear to gain vigor with every passing sip. The palate is stunning: very viscous in the mouth with tangy grapefruit, honey and white peach. It is still primal, but the acidity is perfectly judged and there is a life-affirming sense of precision and tension towards the finish. Exceptional. Drink now-2045.
