The 2007 vintage for the esteemed Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos-Saint-Jacques from Domaine Armand Rousseau stands as a testament to the hallmark precision and finesse for which this revered Burgundian producer is renowned. Having journeyed through numerous seasons and terroirs, my encounters with the wines of this storied domaine consistently leave a profound impression.

Distinguished Vintage, Remarkable Narrative

While the 2007 vintage in Burgundy did not share the effusive praise of some of its peers, the most adroit of vignerons transformed its challenges into triumphs. Domaine Armand Rousseau met this year's unique climatic conditions with a touch of mastery that coaxed subtlety and elegance out of a tricky growing season—a convincing display of artistry over adversity.

The 2007 Clos-Saint-Jacques presents multifaceted layers that unveil themselves with composure over time. A delicate mélange of dark cherry and earthy undertones characterises the bouquet. On the palate, a symphony of poised red fruit, accented with hints of spice and an ethereal minerality, crescendos to a perfectly balanced finish.

Burgundian Elegance: A Wise Investment

For connoisseurs and fine wine investors alike, Domaine Armand Rousseau's bottlings are considered prudent acquisitions; they embody both the quintessence of their terroir and the potential for graceful ageing. The 2007 vintage of Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos-Saint-Jacques elucidates this synthesis exquisitely—offering elegance today with the promise of unfolding splendour.

As one orbits the world of fine wines, seeking those peak experiences that both enrapture today and promise even more on the morrow, one cannot help but return to Domaine Armand Rousseau. The 2007 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos-Saint-Jacques reaffirms this domaine's status as one of the paramount guardians of Burgundy's ancient and noble wine heritage—and an astute addition to any discerning portfolio.

Drunk from double-magnum, Rousseau's 2007 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques is showing very well, bursting from the glass with an expressive bouquet of raspberries, red plums, raw cocoa, peonies, sweet soil tones and spicy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, supple and charming, it's an open-knit, expressive wine, its ample core of fruit framed by succulent acids and melting tannins. It's drinking very well already.
