2003 Musigny Cuvee Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru from Domaine Comte de Vogue, Burgundy, France

The 2003 vintage in Burgundy was an anomaly; a summer of scorching heat waves that challenged vignerons yet also produced some remarkably opulent wines. Among those, the 2003 Musigny Cuvee Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru from Domaine Comte de Vogue stands out as a testament to the resilience and adaptive craftsmanship of its producer.

An Exceptional Vintage's Story

Where heat often shrivels, here it gave birth to complexity. Domaine Comte de Vogue's mastery over their ancient vines coaxed forth a wine that sings of both the extremes of its vintage and the enduring elegance of Musigny. Markedly different from its cooler-year counterparts, this 2003 offering basks in the audacity of its ripe fruit profile and assertive structure.

A Tapestry of Ripe Grandeur

In one's glass, the 2003 Musigny Cuvee Vieilles Vignes unfurls with a vibrant robe, deep and intoxicating. The nose is a rhapsody to black cherries and autumnal earth, subtly laced with vanilla and dark chocolate – classical yet pronounced. On the palate, it engages with a presence that is both immense and refined; plums and ripe berries marry with notes of leather and spice. Tannins carry wisdom rather than weight, whispering of the wine's ageing potential.

The benevolent assault of summer '03 was met with an adeptness at Domaine Comte de Vogue that turned would-be strife into a cohesive narrative of power balanced by poise. This particular bottle for the astute investor encapsulates not just a season, but an extraordinary moment in winemaking history for which the 2003 Musigny Cuvee Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru will long be recounted.

A Singular Investment Opportunity

For connoisseurs and investors alike, this remarkable wine presents an opportunity to own a slice of Burgundy's climatic annals. Withstanding the vicissitudes of seasons, the 2003 Musigny Cuvee Vieilles Vignes from Domaine Comte de Vogue is not merely a collector’s piece but an expression of vinous resilience and triumph which promises to star in any discerning portfolio.

Unquestionably one of the glories of the vintage, the 2003 Musigny Vieilles Vignes brings forth a highly boisterous nose of spices, violets, roses, plums, blueberries, and black cherries. Deep, powerful, graceful, concentrated, and sensually textured, it slathers the mouth with plums, blueberries, and cherries. Notes of mocha are intermingled with licorice in its exquisitely long finish. This noble wine is crammed with tannin, yet it is sweet and ripe. Projected maturity: 2010-2025+.
