2014 Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine Fourrier, Burgundy

In the realm of stellar Burgundian crus, the 2014 Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine Fourrier stands out for its articulation of a vintage marked by harmonious defiance. As we venture into the plush yet precise world of this exceptional offering, let us immerse in the nuances that define the 2014 harvest, often overshadowed by its more flamboyant predecessors.

Vintage Vitality Meets Vinous Virtuosity

The year 2014 was a tightrope walk in Burgundy's climate narrative. Fluctuations gave way to an Indian summer that was nothing short of salvational, bestowing the grapes with equilibrium unexpected from such capricious conditions. This serendipitous turn at the season's eleventh hour is captured gracefully within this bottle. Domaine Fourrier, with their minimalist interventionist approach, coaxed out a delicate tension in their coveted Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru, evidence of their vinicultural deftness.

The sensory journey begins with an alluring bouquet; tart cherry and ripe strawberry aromas embraced by an ethereal earthiness which—like Proust’s madeleine—whisks one away to the vine-studded slopes of Burgundy. On the palate, its texture is a tapestry of finesse—a seamless blend of succulent fruit and taut minerality. Yet, it is the wine’s resilience and depth that ensnares and intrigues, lending itself to a longevity that astute investors will recognize.

Crafting Complexity, Courting Collectors

Domaine Fourrier’s philosophy of low yields and old vines contributes significantly to this vintage's concentrated complexity. The wine’s subtlety is punctuated with vibrant acidity—a vital sign assuring investors that it will evolve magnificently as it ages gracefully in the cellar.

Let not the initial understatement of the 2014 decadence fool you; therein lies a layered progression promising to bloom with time. Such intricacy is what makes it a compelling addition to any discerning portfolio—an investment in sensorial and monetary dividends poised for rewarding maturation.

For those seeking to capitalize on wines characterized by poise and potential, the 2014 Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine Fourrier represents an admirable manifestation of its terroir and the triumphs within its vintage—truly, a Burgundy of cerebral allure and sophisticated depth.

The 2014 Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru has a very intense bouquet with maraschino, blueberry and violets blossoming in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe black fruit, blueberry and a hint of balsamic, leading to a quite a structured and dense finish that just needs a touch more finesse. I think that will develop with time. Superb.
