Glorious Vintage, Exceptional Terroir

The exceptional terroir of Gevrey-Chambertin's 'Les Combottes' - a prized Premier Cru climat - is majestically expressed in the 1990 Gevrey les Combottes from Domaine Leroy. This vintage encapsulated a miraculous harmony between nature and nurture, with a benevolent growing season that allowed for an unhurried maturation of Pinot Noir grapes.

The 1990 Gevrey les Combottes reveals a bouquet steeped in subtleties - a testimony to Lalou Bize-Leroy's revered biodynamic approach. Scents of macerated cherries layer with autumnal forest floor and nuanced hints of game and anise. On the palate, the remnants of tannic structure are gracefully integrated into the wine's silken texture, speaking to both the winemaking prowess of Domaine Leroy and the impeccable calibre of this particular annus mirabilis.

The Gevrey-Chambertin-Les Combottes is much more decadent and showy than the Chambolle-Musigny-Les Fremieres. The sweet nose of coffee, caramel, black-cherries, and earth is a turn-on. In the mouth, this full-bodied, voluptuously textured, superbly concentrated wine with no hard edges exhibits lavish quantities of jammy fruit buttressed nicely by new oak, decent acidity, and moderate tannins. Although precocious, it needs another 4-5 years to develop even further, and should last for 20-25 years. Importer: Martine's Wines, San Rafael, CA.
