Characteristics That Distinguish 2005 As An Illustrious Vintage

The year 2005 was one that Burgundian winemakers reminisce over with a gleam in their eye. A vintage where the weather gods seemed to favour every ripening cluster, it provided a lengthy growing season marked by warm days and cool nights—conditions which are quintessential for crafting wines with exquisite balance. The result was fruit of optimum phenolic ripeness coupled with invigorating acidity, qualities that are vividly embodied in the 2005 Gevrey les Combottes.

The nose transports you to autumnal woods; layers of dark cherry and ripe plum interweaving with whispers of truffle and earth. On the palate, this wine’s complexity unfurls; its texture is like the finest silk from the orient—smooth yet unquestionably structured. With rounded tannins and an enduring finish that suggests whispers of spice, this opulent offering is akin to an orchestral suite in its sophistication and depth.

An Investment-worthy Legacy

Anchored by Lalou Bize-Leroy’s uncompromising dedication to biodynamic principles, the 2005 Gevrey les Combottes punctuates why Domaine Leroy’s creations are sought-after treasures among fine wine investors. Bearing fruit that has now blossomed into full maturity, this vintage provides an experience both enlightened and ephemeral; few wines can claim to capture a moment in time quite as eloquently as this one does.

In cellar investment terms, such a ruby jewel as the 2005 Gevrey les Combottes promises not only an unmatched tasting journey for those who uncork its delights but also a steadfast appreciation in value for collectors who preserve it. It represents an astute acquisition for portfolios seeking both rarity and renowned lineage.

Akin to a classic novel which garners new admirers with each passing generation, the 2005 Gevrey les Combottes continues to draw connoisseurs into its enigmatic narrative—one savoured sip at a time.

Lightly cooked black cherry and raspberry, wood smoke, musk, and (for the first time in this collection) decidedly gamey aromas mark the Leroy 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Combottes. A distinctively wet stone cast inflects the black fruits on the very full, rounded palate, and this wine’s long, strong finish is dominated by yet more sweet black fruit, plus red licorice, with only a low-toned growl of wild animal. And indeed, at least today, the personality of this wine is itself dominated by its concentrated, seamless finish. Importer: Martine’s Wines. Novato, CA; tel. (415) 883-0400
