By Domaine Leroy

2013 Vosne les Beaux Monts from Domaine Leroy, Vosne-Romanée, Burgundy, France

In the tapestry of Burgundy's climatic narrative, the 2013 vintage from Domaine Leroy holds a prominent thread. The year was marked by diligence and adversity, elements that culminated in a wine of unanticipated poise and depth. As a venerated estate, Domaine Leroy imparts illustrious terroir expression into every bottle, and their 2013 Vosne les Beaux Monts is an exemplary testament to this truism.

Meticulous Mastery: Domaine Leroy's Gauntlet

The year's challenging growing conditions—the late flowering, hail storms, and the cool summer—necessitated astute viticultural tactics. Lalou Bize-Leroy, the estate's matriarch and vigneronne extraordinaire, deftly navigated these trials. It is her precise attention to detail and biodynamic philosophy that resonate within the complex layers of this vintage.

Profound Pleasure in Patience

The 2013 Vosne les Beaux Monts unveils a curious alchemy between the force of nature and human artistry. This vintage reveals muted black fruit flavours at first encounter, quickly evolving to unveil a medley of spiced plums and tart cherries, ensconced in a plush robe of fine tannins. Its lithe acidity provides a backbone that promises substantial ageing potential—an enticing prospect for investors with an appreciation for wines that mature gracefully.

On the finish, toasted oak and a whisper of forest floor merge to leave an enduring impression characteristic of Vosne-Romanée's prestige. Such complexity, born from a year that tested even the most seasoned vintners, serves as proof that exceptional terroir and attentive stewardship can turn adversity into advantage.

In conclusion, for those seeking investment with both a sense of place and a story to tell, the 2013 Vosne les Beaux Monts from Domaine Leroy emerges as one of these coveted bottles. A beacon amidst Burgundy's ocean of pinots, it ensures a captivating journey through both taste and time.

The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Beaux Monts has great clarity on the nose, here veering more toward red fruit than the les Brulées, with subtle wet limestone and granitic scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied, very “gourmand” in the mouth, the kind of wine you don’t know whether to drink or eat (not in terms of texture but the flavors). There is a lovely meaty note that surfaces on the long finish. Tres bon vin!
