Vieux Chateau Certan 2001 traded at an all-time high of £1,750 this week, having originally been released at £520. As Liv-ex notes, the steady 237% increase demonstrates the wine’s resistance to ups and downs in the wider market.
Decanter’s Jane Anson recently awarded the wine a perfect 100-point score, describing it as a “show stopper of a wine, from the very first moment your pour it.” She gave its older sibling, the 2000, a lower 96 points, although her followers will note the better performing wine is still available for less – the 2000 last traded for £2,200.
Neal Martin has been less effusive in his review, scoring the wine 93 points in 2013. However, he noted that it appeared to be “on an upward curve”.
