After a dismal showing in late 2003, this Duhart has really come out of its shell. The 1999 Duhart has quite an opulent, sensuous nose with some dense black fruits, charcoal, graphite and a touch of boysenberry. Good lift and definition. The palate has a fine backbone, quite animally, something redolent of the Northern Rhone on the mid-palate, supple on the finish, silky damson finish with a bitter orange edge and a hint of pain grille on the aftertaste. Needs a little more time. Drink 2010-2020. Tasted September 2008.

This attractive dark ruby-colored, well-balanced, medium-bodied 1999 exhibits notes of underbrush, cassis liqueur, and dried herbs. The wine possesses finesse, harmony, and copious fruit. It can be consumed now and over the next 13-14 years.
