By Chateau Gazin

1982 Chateau Gazin from Chateau Gazin, Pomerol, Bordeaux

The hallowed vintage of 1982 needs little introduction to the devoted oenophile. It is a year that stands as a beacon of excellence in the Bordelais calendar. Particularly in Pomerol, the wines of this vintage exude a quality that merits deep respect and an almost reverential approach to investment. None more so than the 1982 Chateau Gazin from Chateau Gazin, a wine that captures the essence of its storied terroir with finesse.

A Vintage Defined by Harmony and Maturity

At four decades old, the 1982 Chateau Gazin has entered a plateau of mature perfection, showcasing how time can be alchemy for the finest of Bordeaux's offerings. In this vintage, each sip reveals layered complexity—an orchestra of flavours depicting dark ripe plums, truffles and a seductive undernote of tobacco and leather. The lush Merlot-dominated blend echoes the opulence of Pomerol, underscored by fine-grained tannins and an almost ethereal integration of its component parts.

The climatic conditions in this celebrated year played a protagonist's role; abundant sunshine and ideal temperatures during critical growth periods led to near-flawless fruit. This near-perfect start to life is witnessed today in each glass poured—provenance and pedigree meeting the zenith of viniculture skill.

An Emblematic Vintage for Investors

For investors seeking out jewels from Bordeaux's pantheon, the 1982 Chateau Gazin is a resplendent addition to any portfolio. Its storied provenance and continued reverence among connoisseurs translate into marked desirability in investment circles. With impeccable balance and structure, it stands as one of Pomerol's trophy vintages, demonstrating both longevity and poise—attributes embraced by those looking to cultivate a collection with capital appreciation in mind.

This 1982 offering from Chateau Gazin encapsulates not just a momentous year but also embodies an investment-grade wine that continues to enchant palates and portfolios alike. As time weaves its narrative thread, the 1982 Chateau Gazin remains a vivid chapter in Bordeaux's rich tapestry.

Since the 1988 vintage, Gazin has been one of the up and coming stars of Bordeaux. However, the 1982 was obviously made during an uninspiring period when quality was not the chateau's highest priority. It exhibits an herbal, tea-like, spicy, sweet, jammy cherry-scented nose, medium body, some dilution, and a round, easy-going style. It will not hold its fruit for more than another 4-5 years . This is a pleasant but undistinguished wine that should be drunk before the turn of the century. Tasted 4 times with consistent notes.
