2006 Chateau Gazin from Chateau Gazin, Pomerol, Bordeaux

The 2006 Chateau Gazin from Chateau Gazin is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of Pomerol's esteemed terroirs. The vintage was punctuated by challenging conditions, yet the deft craftsmanship at Chateau Gazin ensured that the vines yielded a crop of meritorious quality.

A Vintage of Contrasts and Complexity

Weather patterns in the Bordeaux region can make or break a vintage. In 2006, the growing season was a game of two halves, with tumultuous heat spikes succeeded by inundations that required astute vineyard management. The merlot-dominated blend benefited from the clay soil's natural regulation properties, endowing the resulting wine with a well-balanced structure and poise that is emblematic of Chateau Gazin's craft.

The 2006 vintage offers an intriguing bouquet of ripe red fruits underscored by subtler earthy undertones—a hallmark of maturity—as well as finely integrated oak nuances acquired during its repose in barrels. This careful aging process has imparted an additional layer of complexity, making this wine a compelling proposition for discerning palates and fine wine investors alike.

Investment-grade Clout with Pomerol Pedigree

As enduring as the château itself, the 2006 Chateau Gazin from Chateau Gazin has emerged with grace from its earlier tannic structure to reveal a supple yet robust profile—a juxtaposition that plays out beautifully on the palate. The intricate latticework of blackberry compote dovetails seamlessly with hints of truffle and a crescendo of spice, delivering an expressive and textured finish.

The investment viability of this vintage is underpinned by its evolution. As it continues to unfurl its layers with each passing year, this Pomerol beauty encapsulates a rich narrative within its ruby depths—one where weather-induced adversity has been artfully transmuted into viticultural virtue.

Sumptuous Now; Promising Tomorrow

In summary, the 2006 Chateau Gazin from Chateau Gazin is at once a celebration of its challenging birth year and a beacon for what meticulous viniculture can accomplish amidst adversity. For investors seeking to broaden their portfolio, this wine presents not only a delightful sensory interlude but also an asset ripe for maturation—and one that promises further revelation as it continues its journey in bottle.

Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Château Gazin has a delightful bouquet with small dark cherries, blueberry and iodine aromas, completely different to the 2006 Nénin, much more vigorous and cohesive. This is a bouquet with a sense of purpose. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannin, respectable depth and complexity towards the finish with delicate, slightly leafy, truffle-tinged red fruit. This seems to be at its peak now and comes highly recommended. Tasted January 2016.
