2014 La Conseillante from Chateau La Conseillante, Pomerol, Bordeaux, France

In delving into the opulent offerings of Pomerol, I find the 2014 La Conseillante from Chateau La Conseillante to stand as a testament to the nuanced craftsmanship that this celebrated terroir can bestow. In a vintage that called for meticulous attention due to varied climatic challenges, this rendition of La Conseillante articulates a tale of resilience and finesse.

Vintage Vigilance: A Refined Triumph

The growing season of 2014 in Pomerol saw an amalgamation of conditions; with a modest start and hurdles along the way, but ultimately concluding with an Indian summer that brought redemption. The crucial late sunshine coaxed out a complexity in the grapes that belies the earlier vicissitudes - indeed a boon for wine investors seeking out under-the-radar vintages with that touch of extraordinary variability.

Elegant Expression, Investment Elegance

Tasting the 2014 La Conseillante unfolds layers of ripe blackberries and plums, draped over a framework that is undeniably Bordeaux - firm yet silky tannins and an undercurrent of earthy minerality. The subtleties of truffle and a faint savoriness belie its youth, evoking the interplay between the fruit and terroir that Chateau La Conseillante so seamlessly epitomizes. Through careful cellaring, one can anticipate a beautiful evolution of these characteristics over time.

A note to collectors: as the market embarks on a continuous quest for solid investments boasting both distinction and potential for appreciation, this vintage represents an astute addition. Its robust pedigree combined with its particular story offers a unique proposition within the fine wine investment landscape.

In summary, while some may overlook the 2014 vintage in lieu of more exuberantly lauded years, it is exactly such oversight that creates opportunity. The 2014 La Conseillante from Chateau La Conseillante presents investors with an exemplar of Pomerol's adaptability and grace under pressure—an articulate expression destined to mature with remarkable poise.

The 2014 La Conseillante has a well-defined bouquet with brambly red berry fruit, minerals, touches of seaweed and light incense aromas that develop fine intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin. This Pomerol is very well poised with perfectly judged acidity. Whilst not a match for Titans like the 1989 or 2010, this La Conseillante possesses nuance and sophistication, a precision that does justice to the name. It should be earlier-drinking that other vintages that I have tasted, though given the terroir and track record, it would not surprise me if it gives 25 years of drinking pleasure. Tasted twice with consistent notes.
