2007 Chateau le Gay
By Chateau Le Gay
The 2007 Chateau le Gay from Chateau Le Gay, Pomerol, Bordeaux
The 2007 vintage of Pomerol stands enshrined as an intriguing chapter in the venerable book of Bordeaux wines. This is exemplified by the exquisite assemblage of Merlot and Cabernet Franc in the 2007 Chateau le Gay from Chateau Le Gay. In a year that was marked by climatic caprice, it is truly remarkable to witness how the legendary skills of Pomerol winemakers translated into wines of finesse and structured complexity.
A Vintage On Its Own Merits
In the intricate tapestry of Bordeaux vintages, 2007 often whispers as a more delicate nuance against the bold narrative of preceding years. Noted for its early drinking window, it diverges gracefully from its more tannic siblings. The 2007 Chateau le Gay bestows upon the investor's palate a rich blend of ripe fruits and an undercurrent of subtle earthy tones—a paean to the Merlot prowess amidst audacious weather conditions.
Bespoke Clime And Craftsmanship
The season’s milder temperatures coax out softer tannins and a gentler oenological embrace than might be found in more opulent years. This has allowed for an earlier maturation where investors keen on a shorter holding period can delight in their pursuit with alacrity. Yet, this does not detract from the wine’s inviting aging potential—one eloquently hinted at through its admirable balance and poised expression.
Matured with patient exactitude, the palette reveals regal notes of truffle and dark cherry, with an ever-so-gentle hint of cigar box on the finish—testaments to its excellent craftsmanship and understated elegance that sits at the heart of Pomerol’s heralded terroir.
In summary, the 2007 Chateau le Gay from Chateau Le Gay offers a unique investment opportunity within the mosaic of Pomerol vintages. It presents with immediate approachability yet retains commendable potential for further cellar maturation, solidifying its appeal to both novice enthusiasts and seasoned collectors alike.

Scores and tasting notes
Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Le Gay has a slightly smudged bouquet of mulberry, singed leather and hung game notes, seeming to have dispensed with some of its energy since I last tasted it. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannin and certainly has more to offer than the aromatics: small dark cherries, sage, marmalade and truffle emerging towards the finish. It begins in modest fashion but finishes with some aplomb. Tasted February 2017.
