Intricacy and Intensity: An Exceptional Burgundian Offering
The 2012 vintage in Burgundy was no stranger to challenges; the region grappled with erratic weather including hail storms and a drop in temperatures during flowering. However, such trials have historically been the breeding ground for remarkable wines, where skilled vintners bring their nuanced expertise into play. Domaine Jacques-Frederic Mugnier, acclaimed for their meticulous winemaking, have threaded this care into their Chambolle Musigny les Amoureuses, turning adverse conditions into a compelling narrative bottled up for the discerning connoisseur.
Vintage Characteristics: A Harmonious Distillation of Time and Terroir
The 2012 Chambolle Musigny les Amoureuses is eloquent in its expression of terroir – an elegant medium-bodied thrill with well-knit tannins and a persistent finish. An olfactory tapestry weaves black cherries and earthy undertones on the nose, caressing into a palate adorned with hints of ripe strawberries, balanced acidity and subtle oak nuances. The resulting poise positions this vintage as one to watch within an investor’s portfolio.
Bearing an age-worthy structure, it offers insights into equitable ageing potential, yet already presents a desirable balance that beckons for early enjoyment. This duality speaks volumes to astute investors who seek both delight and foresight in their acquisitions.

Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses has an open and generous bouquet with redcurrant, wild strawberry and raspberry preserve aromas, beautifully defined and superbly integrated with the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. Smooth in texture, perhaps just needs a little more tension, though the acidity is nicely judged. The oak is more tangible in the mouth than on the palate, but it will reward cellaring. Not quite as stellar as a predicted from barrel, yet I anticipate melioration in bottle.
