By Domaine Leroy
1995 Vosne les Genaivrieres from Domaine Leroy, Burgundy
The 1995 vintage of Vosne les Genaivrieres from Domaine Leroy is an exquisite illustration of the outstanding potential of Burgundy's wines when nature and nurture coalesce. The growing season of '95 posed particular challenges - a touch erratic in its weather patterns - but through meticulous vine management and a perspicacious harvest, Domaine Leroy has translated these trials into triumph.
A Testament to Terroir and Craftsmanship
This splendid vintage has benefited immensely from the revered terroir of Vosne-Romanée, combined with the Domaine Leroy's unyielding commitment to quality. The less generous yields of this year have intensified the flavor profile, creating an opulent tapestry of aromatic complexity only achievable in such concentrated conditions.
The 1995 Vosne les Genaivrieres presents an intricate ballet of ripe cherries and summer berries, woven with subtle threads of seasoned oak and a whisper of earthy minerality. There's an almost paradoxical nature to this wine: it commands attention with its bold notes while conducting itself with a noble restraint that belies its age.
An Investment in Vinous Elegance
For investors looking to add a hallmark Burgundy to their portfolio, this vintage stands tall amongst its peers. One would be hard-pressed to find another 1995 with such a poised combination of vibrancy and maturity – a clear indicator of strong investment potential through scarcity and desirability.
Tasting the 1995 Vosne les Genaivrieres is experiencing a symphony where each sip feels like a new movement, nuanced, complex, yet harmoniously balanced. As it graces the palate, one is struck by an elegant symphony of tannins and acid, demonstrating a masterful expression of the region’s capabilities.
In conclusion, as time garners further elegance upon the 1995 Vosne les Genaivrieres from Domaine Leroy, one can expect a continuing ascent in its allure to collectors and connoisseurs alike. Herein lies a vintage Burgundian gem that promises not just a transcendent sipping experience but also an auspicious asset in fine wine investment circles.

Scores and tasting notes
Displaying a medium-to-dark ruby color and a lovely, feminine nose of sweet cherries and roses, the Vosne-Romanee Les Genevrieres (100 cases) is a well made and structured example of an early drinking (for Leroy!) Vosne. Medium-to-full bodied, it will be at its best from 1999-2006. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. The wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Pinot Noir, a fragile varietal, reacts poorly to fining, filtration, and careless bottling techniques, I recommend caution when considering buying a red burgundy based on cask samples. I called it as I tasted it, and hope the bottled wine reflects the quality of the samples I was provided. I have included the cases production for the wine in order for readers to appreciate the rarity of Leroy's wines. Importer: Martine's Wines, San Raphael, CA; tel. (415) 485-1800.
