2001 Tignanello
By Antinori
2001 Tignanello from Antinori, the pacesetter among Super Tuscans
As you navigate the labyrinth of fine Italian wines, one beacon shines brightly to guide you- the 2001 Tignanello from Antinori, a Super Tuscan of surpassing grace and complexity. A trailblazer in the renaissance of Italian wines, Antinori brought international acclaim to Tuscany with its pantheon of exquisite vintages and Tignanello stands firmly amongst the aristocracy.
2001: A unique chapter in Antinori's chronicles
A wine's vintage is its bond with a moment in time and in 2001, the Earth itself seemed to conspire with Antinori to produce a seminal chapter in Tignanello's saga. Seldom has Tuscany's benevolent sun been so generous nor its soils so welcoming; together they inscribed into the grapes an account of 2001's weather peculiarities.
The resulting wine is a symphony of flavours: ripe black plum, esoteric spices and insinuations of espresso come forth; an eloquent discourse with the senses. The combination of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc displays a beautiful marriage of Italian tradition and international flair.
An intriguing proposition for investors
The 2001 Tignanello by Antinori appeals not only to oenophiles but also to astute investors seeking to diversify their portfolios. The limited nature of this vintage coupled with Antinori’s well-established global acclaim ensures Tignanello's value does more than merely hold its ground over time.
It is the consummate balance that enables the 2001 Tignanello to remain fresh while becoming increasingly nuanced with age: a trait that graces it with perennial appeal. When it comes to investment potential, this Super Tuscan is not just playing the long game, it IS the long game.
In conclusion, the 2001 Tignanello from Antinori is not merely a wine; it is an epic narrative dressed in deep crimson, a conversation between man, nature and time that you’re invited to join. It enthralls the palate, enriches collections, and astutely rewards investors. To sip this vintage is to taste a moment in time and anticipate the promise of tomorrow all at once—leaving one with a lasting impression of exhilarating satisfaction.

The 2001 Tignanello is an object lesson in how to make Cabernet work with Sangiovese, the two varieties balancing and enhancing one another in admirable symbiosis. (The percentage of Cabernet, in fact, was reduced from the previous 20% to 15% in this vintage, an important sign - I hope - of how the wind is blowing.) A blackish ruby, its perfectly focused plum and cassis fruit, given an additional complexity by notes of sweet herbs and saddle leather, is fully and completely shaped in flavors of impeccable volume, roundness, and depth, caressing and powerful and with an additional power on the close which promises another 15 years of gratifying drinking.
