2013 Romanée St Vivant from Domaine Dujac, Burgundy, France

Burgundy connoisseurs perhaps recall the meteorological back-and-forth of 2013 as vividly as the wines it parted onto us. The harvest from this challenging year bore the 2013 Romanée St Vivant from Domaine Dujac, becoming a testament to the resilience and artistry of the vigneron's craft amid adversity.

Vintage Report: Purity in Complexity

The 2013 vintage in Burgundy was, without question, marked by climatic tests – a cold, late spring followed by a summer that saw both hailstorms and hot spells. Against these odds, skilled domaines such as Dujac yielded wines that eloquently express the singularity of their terroir. The 2013 Romanée St Vivant is no exception, emerging with an articulate profile of red fruits laced with the typical spice one anticipates from such noble grounds.

Age-Worthy Elegance: A Wise Investment

Boasting structure and subtlety, this Romanée St Vivant unfurls an intricate bouquet where raspberry and black cherry are seasoned with hints of earth and fine tannins. Its poised acidity suggests that it will be a wise choice for investors seeking age-worthy gems. Moreover, the finite production levels inherent to such exceptional parcels render this vintage all the more sought-after amongst discerning collectors.

On the palate, this vintage retains a youthful vibrancy contrasting its developing savoury undertones – an interplay likely to evolve sumptuously. Despite its birth from a challenging year, or perhaps due to it, the wine exudes balance – a tightrope walk of finesse and intensity compelling on release and assuredly promising with maturation.

In closing, the ambitious investor or connoisseur delving into the remarkable tale of the 2013 Romanée St Vivant from Domaine Dujac will find more than a fine Burgundy. They will discover a bottle that encapsulates not only a moment in the storied history of viticulture but also the promise of outstanding potential returns as this vintage continues to unfurl its tapestry of complexities through the years.

The 2013 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru has a rounded, fruit-driven, almost sensual bouquet with plenty of ripe strawberry and maraschino scents with fine mineralité. The palate is focused and refined, very harmonious, more linear than the 2012 with a precise, elegant finish. There is a sense of completeness here that is very engaging and bodes well once this ebullient RSV is bottled.
