2011 Chambolle Musigny les Amoureuses from Domaine Jacques-Frederic Mugnier, Burgundy

The 2011 vintage in Burgundy is one of poised elegance, frequently overshadowed by the lauded vintages adjoining it. Yet, to neglect such a year would be a disservice, particularly when discussing the sterling 2011 Chambolle Musigny les Amoureuses from Domaine Jacques-Frederic Mugnier. This Gem of a wine encapsulates the ethereal grace that one has come to anticipate from this revered appellation.

A Vintage of Constraint and Charm

The 2011 season braved erratic weather conditions, which carved out a distinctive niche for its resultant wines. The 2011 Chambolle Musigny les Amoureuses boasts a finessed restraint, telling of the meticulous canopy management that countered the climatic whimsies. Here there is a balletic harmony between ripeness and acidity, born through the challenges of the growing season.

From a taste perspective, this vintage radiates with a bouquet of crushed raspberry and fresh cherry jubilantly twined with earthier undertones of humus and spice. As one delves deeper into the palate's structure, they unearth a felicitous amalgam of red fruit purity and mineral strokes - affirming the greatness that can be yielded within less extolled years.

Lucid Investment Potential

While the exuberance of bolder vintages might appeal to some investors' penchant for immediate gratification, the 2011 Chambolle Musigny les Amoureuses invokes a siren call for those who treasure development in both complexity and market value.

This wine, nurtured by Frédéric Mugnier's almost alchemical touch among their vines, is not merely an investment but a scripture of viticultural finesse awaiting scripture in cellars and portfolios alike.

In conclusion, discerning collectors should bestow their attention upon this quietly confident vintage; its future promise is betokened not only by its present allure but by the potential it harbours to enchant the palate and investment portfolio alike over time. The 2011 Chambolle Musigny les Amoureuses from Domaine Jacques-Frederic Mugnier stands as a testament to the enduring charm and grace attainable even in Burgundy's most challenging years.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. After a misfiring bottle in Holland, it is pleasing to find what I feel is a more representative example. Here, the Chambolle-Musigny les Amoureuses ‘11 has a precise and delineated bouquet with touches of seaweed infusing the red and black fruit. It is more reserved than other Amoureuses but no less compelling. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, outstanding tension and a very focused, mineral-laden finish that is quite conservative and almost austere. But still, it should repay 3-4 years in bottle and then continue to deliver long after.
