2009 Corton Renardes from Domaine Leroy, Burgundy, France

Embarking on a narrative about the hallowed vineyards of Burgundy often reads like an homage to the craftsmen of the terroir, and few vintages are more deserving of such reverence than the 2009 Corton Renardes from Domaine Leroy. This illustrious plot, abutting the hill of Corton, sings of both geography and vintage in a union that captures a year of distinction within its vinous grasp.

A Vintage Steeped in Opulence

Lalou Bize-Leroy's domaine stands as one of the tellurian landmarks in Burgundy winemaking; her biodynamic principles coaxing out a near-celestial performance from each vintage's unique disposition. The 2009 offering from this formidable Grand Cru vineyard radiates with the ripeness of an almost halcyon summer, expressing itself with unreserved vigour yet upholding the finesse expected from such noble pedigree.

Radiant Richness and Textural Elegance

2009 was a year that played to the strengths of holdings like Corton Renardes, lavishing it with the meteorological munificence to yield something extraordinary. Intricate layers unfurl across the palate — whispers of well-tempered tannins, underpinning dark fruits and an enchanting truffle note, a nod to this Bacchanalian jubilee's maturity.

Doubling as an œnological cipher, this Corton Renardes tells of silken textures and sturdy structure; it thrums with depth, its vibrancy undimmed by time. Candid witnesses have placed it amongst their most memorable tastings; its orchestration between power and precision indeed hints at what many seek in their wine investment ventures — tranquillity amidst tempestuous ability.

As an enthusiast looking towards the firmament of fine wine investing, setting sights on the 2009 Corton Renardes from Domaine Leroy could well map a trajectory towards an oenophile elysium. This vintage is a consummate testimony to both the estate's mastery and Mother Nature's timely generosity.

Connoisseur Considerations

For prospective investors or collectors who entwine passion with pragmatism, this age-worthy Burgundian marvel presents not just a facet for admiration but also an avenue for contemplation in the annals of esteemed cellars. It remains clear that whether by fate or fortune, this 2009 Corton Renardes captures an essence that resounds well beyond its harvest, securing its place in the pantheon of collectable wines.

The 2009 Corton-Renardes hits the palate with waves of dark red fruit, smoke and incense. This is a decidedly virile, powerful wine, very much in keeping with the personality of the site. Exotic aromas and flavors come together beautifully in the glass as the wine opens up. This is a totally beautiful Burgundy, but it will appeal most to readers who like firm, structured wines. It’s incredible to think this is the first of eight premier crus at Leroy! Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. This was my first opportunity to taste the 2009s from Domaine Leroy in bottle. Lalou Bize-Leroy was among the first, if not the first, to bottle her 2009s, so she naturally wanted to give the wines some time to recover before showing them. The wines are stunning. Readers who have an opportunity to taste them should not hesitate. As always, the style is one of textural richness and depth, but the2009s appear to have excellent underlying material as well. The attention to every detail at the Domaine is quite evident in these thrilling wines. My visit ended with a sample of the 2010 Chambertin from barrel. Why not go straight to the top? If that wine is representative of the year, Leroy fans will have another superb vintage to look forward to, although yields will be lower than the already minuscule production.
