2010 Musigny

By Maison Joseph Drouhin

2010 Musigny from Maison Joseph Drouhin, Burgundy, France

The vintage of 2010 in Burgundy stands as a testament to the mettle and mastery of the finest winemakers; amongst them, Maison Joseph Drouhin has risen magnificently to the challenge. The 2010 Musigny from Maison Joseph Drouhin personifies the grace and resilience inherent in this remarkable year.

A Harvest against the Odds: The Triumph of 2010

Let us recall the climatic caprices of 2010: a spring that dallied in chill, amplifying anxiety about delayed bud break and uneven flowering. Yet, these concerns only heightened the triumph of a harvest that brought forth fruit with an unfathomable balance between sugar and acidity—the very foundation upon which the 2010 Musigny erects its noble structure.

The Quintessence of Terroir and Timing

On sampling this exemplary creation, one is struck by the purity of Pinot Noir that speaks unequivocally of its origin—the limestone-infused terroir of Musigny. Refined yet robust tannins engage in a dance with red and dark berries, enlaced with whispers of earth and dark chocolate, painting a palatial texture across the palate. Subtle oak maturation has gifted this wine with nuances that embellish rather than obscure—a flourish embodying Drouhin's deft touch.

The longevity of this wine promises to be one of its most distinguished traits, making it a compelling consideration for fine wine investors; a piece de resistance bound to augment any cellar.

An Epitome of Investment-worthy Élan

As one who has had the pleasure to encounter numerous vintages of Musigny, it is notable that the 2010 presents an almost ethereal equipoise—A harmony achieved through adversity, presaged by critics pre-harvest but only truly understood at first taste.

In conclusion, the 2010 Musigny from Maison Joseph Drouhin not only adds lustre to an already stellar lineup of prestigious Burgundian wines but also offers a unique investment opportunity for those looking to enrich their collection with finesse. Even amidst a global pantheon of extraordinary vintages, here lies a luminous gem—one thoroughly indicative of its storied land and the year it was born.

The 2010 Musigny wraps around the palate with sensual layers of fruit. This is an understated Burgundy whose many attributes might be easy to miss, so pure is the integration of fruit, acidity and structure. A notable refinement caresses the palate on the silky finish. Despite its approachable personality, there is plenty of structure lurking underneath. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040. This is an impressive showing from Drouhin. In my view the 2010s are more interesting and transparent than the 2009s. Veronique Drouhin describes 2010 as a vintage with long-term aging potential, which certainly seems to be the case. Some of the wines were vinified with a portion of whole clusters, including the Corton-Bressandes, Petits-Monts, Charmes and Musigny. Importer: Dreyfus Ashby & Co., New York, NY; tel. (212) 818-0770
