Leoville Barton hits all time high

Leoville Barton is a label on the move, according to Liv-ex, which reports that four vintages from the chateau have hit all-time highs. The 2001 and 2010 reached new peaks last week, following similar success from the 2005 and 2009 at the end of August and beginning of September, respectively.

The 2010, described by Robert Parker as “one of the all-time great classics from Leoville Barton”, traded for the highest price of £1,052 per dozen.

As Liv-ex notes, the label’s index has narrowly outperformed the Bordeaux 500 over the past two years – up 19% compared to the Bordeaux index’s 16%.

Despite a recent lull in growth, Bordeaux in general appears to be once again on the up, with its overall trade share rising to 66.2% from 50.7% last week. The Liv-ex 50 – which tracks the price of the First Growths – was up 0.3% on the previous week.
