Investing in Poise: The Ascent of a Remarkable Vintage

Wine investors discerning enough to capture the essence of this specific vintage will be acutely aware of the synergy it presents: a robust palatal structure delineated by subtle tannins, and a vibrant acidity threading through its core. It is within this delightful tension that the wine shines—a clear signal for prospective longevity and gratification for collectors keen on the reward that patience yields.

Upon the palate, one finds an elegant fusion of black cherry and licorice braces against a backdrop of finely textured oak—a signature of the sustained craftsmanship honed by Domaine Dujac over decades. Hints of violet and a gentle spiciness embellish the finish, adding to a sense that the terroir speaks as much through nuance as it does through strength.

The 2009 Echezeaux is another inward wine. With time in the glass, some of the layers of fruit begin to flesh out, showing the depth I sensed when I tasted the wine from barrel. There is plenty of elegance and finesse, although today the 2010 appears to be more promising by a touch. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2039. My tasting at Dujac was one of the highlights of the two weeks I spent in Burgundy in late November/early December 2011. I tasted through all the 2010s in barrel and 2009s in bottle. The domaine’s 2009s are among the wines of the vintage. Importers: The Sorting Table, Napa, CA; tel. (415) 491-4724; Martin Scott Wines, Little Neck, NY; tel.
